The renovation addressed user circulation, spatial organization and noise control by adding a dedicated Children’s Area, expanding staff areas, updating finishes and furnishings, and bringing restrooms up to current accessibility codes. After simplifying the Entry ceiling and opening the space to the Reading Room, the design team added light splays at the north wall of the Reading Room to bounce natural light into and activate a previously static space. The faceted aesthetic reappears above the circulation desk and at the new partition and entries to the Children’s Area.
