ABIA South Terminal

The Austin Bergstrom International Airport South Terminal expansion project greatly increased the capacity of the airport. Structures modified and reinforced the existing support system from the original Bergstrom Air Force Base to accommodate new architectural elements including ticketing, security, baggage claim, and waiting areas.

Structures also designed the foundations for the new external Birdair canopies that line the buildings. These canopies are a striking feature of the new retro-themed terminal, which features indoor and outdoor waiting areas.

Despite the challenges of working with an existing structure, the team was able to produce solutions to accomplish the architect’s design with very little compromise. This resulted in great views and a unique airport experience for travelers.
