Urban Townhouse

The Urban Townhouse residence is a three story, 9,000 sf historic building originally built in 1874. Throughout its history the property, located two blocks from the State Capitol, was home to several retail establishments.

The project scope consisted of restoring the aged property to its previous condition while converting it from a commercial establishment to a residence for the owner. The property’s first floor features a covered entry, which also serves as a second-floor balcony. The second floor includes the living, dining and kitchen area, while the third floor contains a large master bedroom and bathroom and two bedrooms. The fourth level has a cabana, deck, pool and landscaped area.

Due to years of neglect and fire damage, the structural integrity of the property had been severely compromised, which required the addition of steel columns along two longitudinal, asymmetrical grid lines, the limestone sidewalls needed to be tuck pointed for stability and tied to the new steel structure. Exposed wood joists were kept throughout the property.
