Early Childhood Research

The 123,000 sf facility brings under one roof the Early Childhood Laboratory, University Charter School and Department of Elementary Education.

The mission of the Early Childhood Research Center is to improve the quality of life for children and families in rural East Texas by integrating teaching, research and dissemination of information and to conduct research related to the results of quality instruction on student learning, teacher preparation and retention.

The first floor of the facility houses both the Early Childhood Lab and the University Charter School, while the second floor holds spaces for the elementary education faculty and staff, college classrooms, a computer lab, and a grants and research area.

The lab and charter school enroll a total of 300 children, ranging from infants to fifth graders. The spaces will be used for observation, participation and other educational purposes. The children’s classrooms have microphones and the means for videotaping interactions.
