ACC Hays Campus Phase II

The Public Safety Training Center at the ACC Hays campus provides state-of-the-art training facilities to students, law enforcement officers, and other first responders.

The Center offers a 7,000 sf climate controlled force-on-force modular training room, a 50-yard tactical indoor firing range, a 19-acre emergency vehicle operator course, and many indoor/outdoor areas for varying types of training.

The indoor firing range was constructed with concrete tilt-up panels and long span steel joists to provide a column-free and durable enclosure ideal for the use of the space. It maintains a constant down-range air flow that provides a safe environment for trainees and staff. Large rooftop units are supported by the long-span joists along with heavy lead-lined hanging baffles that prevent the chance of any bullets escaping the building. The system required a fine tuned roof design that allows for a flexible open range that can be configured for various training exercises, including indoor training simulations with SWAT and emergency vehicles, moving targets downrange, and strategic tactical team scenarios.

The Center features an elevated catwalk system with customized steel columns, which required significant openings in the columns to connect the modular wall system components. It can be configured to create a multitude of emergency training scenarios.

The Structures team is proud to have helped provide a state-of-the-art training facility for the community to use. The training and education provided will immediately improve the lives of the trainees and the safety of the surrounding community.
