The Austin Community College San Gabriel campus is a new 100-acre Transit Oriented Campus located next to the Leander MetroRail station. Structures collaborated with an ambitious design team to develop creative learning spaces including classrooms, laboratories, office space, and a Library and Media Center. This new building at the Leander campus includes the ACCelerator – an innovative space with state-of-the-art technology for a 21st century learning experience.
The ACCelerator is a highlight of the campus, and was also a highlight of Structures work. The side of the building where the ACCelerator is housed features an expansive steel shade structure and an inviting outdoor balcony located over the conditioned library space.
The cantilevered architectural screens on the west end of the building were a major accomplishment for the team. The architect presented ambitious cantilevered shading elements at the start of design and the Structures team was able to accomplish them without compromise while still coming in under budget.
