Structures provided engineering design and construction administration services for Périgueux Residence Hall, the newest student housing building at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas. The structure consists of an elevated concrete foundation supported by deep drilled piers that spans over an accessible crawlspace. The superstructure consists of cold-formed metal framing bearing walls and shear walls. Additionally, the central lobby where the two wings adjoin is supported by steel columns and shallow steel beams to create more open spaces and flexibility for the architecture.
The residence hall is the first completed building in The Village at St. Mary’s, a multi-phase construction project developed to create a contemporary living community that will replace seven aging residence halls. The 4-story building provides 90,000 SF of contemporary, suite-style living for 232 junior and senior-level students.
The building consists of two residential wings with a central lobby with elevators, stairs, common/lounge areas, IT facilities, the reception office and additional kitchen facilities. Each floor contains central laundry facilities, a floor lounge with a full kitchen, social space, and group study rooms.
The residence hall also offers an outdoor swimming pool, a sand volleyball court, bocce ball court, and a hammock garden, along with fire pits, a grill and picnic area and was completed in time for the start of the Fall semester in 2017.
