The Frost Bank HQ in College Station is an approximately 12,000 SF, 2-story building with banking services on the first floor and corporate office space on the second floor. Due to the challenge of mitigating expansive soil at the site, the foundation is a structurally suspended slab on void boxes. The second floor is constructed with a composite concrete slab-on-metal deck system. The unique structural detailing of the composite floor system allowed the architect’s designed floor-to-floor height to be implemented as intended.
Replacing the typical braced frames with numerous steel moment connections to support the lateral system created a strong, structurally sound design that enhances the beauty of the extensive glass curtain wall.
