GET TO KNOW TILMAN

Have you ever lived abroad?

Born and raised in Germany, I now enjoy the perks of being a citizen of both the US and Germany. I spent one year studying abroad in Calgary, and I wrote my Master’s Thesis at the Osaka Institute of Technology in Japan.

What was the biggest risk you have ever taken?

I moved to the US 10 years ago, away from all of my family. The cultural differences and learning to adapt are valuable life lessons and I love my chosen home. I am glad that visiting family and friends back in Germany is easy and modern technology has let me keep in touch with everyone. I now feel at home in both countries.

What are your hobbies?

I love playing the piano, I started learning when I was 7 years old. Chopin and Liszt are my favorite composers.

How did you get to Austin?

Having worked in NYC for 10 years, my wife and I were considering a list of several places, and Austin made it to the top of the list right away!

What is on your bucket list?

We just moved to Austin – I am looking forward to enjoying nearby Lake Travis on a hot summer day, visiting COTA for a race, and going to Enchanted Rock!

If you played hooky for a day, where would we find you?

Probably hiking some of the remotest trails far North. I once solo hiked the West Coast Trail on Vancouver Island for 7 days. It was an amazing experience.
