Lorena Sanchez Graduate Engineer
Lorena was born in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She received her bachelors in Civil Engineering from the University of Texas at El Paso. While in undergraduate school, Lorena learned english, tutored math, and worked in the Civil Engineering department where she performed soils testing and made concrete samples for testing. She holds a masters in Civil Engineering with focus on structures from the University of Houston. Lorena loves to travel and has lived in many cities including, Sweibrucken, Germany; St. Louis, Missouri; and Lafayette, Colorado. She and her husband have two daughters and are happy to call Austin home.

If you had no fear, what would you do?
I would camp and hike at night in the Yucatan/Quintana Roo jungle to look for jaguars.
Are you involved with any community organizations or charities?
I’m involved in the Girl Scouts of the USA. I was a troop leader for over two years in Colorado.
What are your top 3 things to do/see in Austin?
Hiking, sightseeing in the Hill Country, visiting caverns and state parks, and listening to live blues and rock and roll music.
What is on your bucket list?
I want to learn to play piano and to spend a summer in Italy when my youngest daughter goes to college.
