Structures transformed a crumbling city block into Cheatham Street Flats. A $15.5 million, 192,000 square-foot, 143 unit student housing and mixed-use development. This landmark project implements progressive prefabricated modular design and construction methods.
Amenities and improvements include underground parking, pedestrian friendly sidewalks, lush landscaping, and a courtyard in the center of the complex. The underground garage includes two levels of below grade parking and accommodates approximately 80 vehicles.
The combination of the modular units and the underground parking garage presented a unique structural challenge. The development required three distinct systems: a site-built concrete underground garage shell, hybrid steel and concrete structure for the internal garage elements, and modular steel units that bolt together on site to create the different apartment units. Each of these three systems was designed by a different structural engineer, which required an enormous amount of coordination throughout the project.
Structures was excited to learn these new modular design and construction methods and was proud to be a part of this unique project.
