North Central Health Center

The 48,000 sf, one story North Central Health Center is one of Central Health’s flagship facilities and replaced the district’s Northeast Austin Health Center. The purpose of the project was to construct a new health center to provide primary care, laboratory, and dental services.

Due to the need to complete the project on a fast track schedule to meet neighborhood demands, Central Health thought it best to use a design build delivery process for the project. With the contractor on board from the beginning it was decided that the entire team would meet every week during the design portion of the project allowing for smoother coordination amongst disciplines. With the contractors input 100% design development drawings resembled 50% construction documents, which in turn led to a shorter construction document phase.

Besides having to meet a tight schedule, one of the most challenging aspects of the project was solving how to support key architectural finishes. The façade of the building includes a brick finish which encompasses the top portion of the exterior wall. Additionally, canopies were incorporated into the design in order to help meet the project’s LEED Silver Certification goal.
